Mobilizing Koreans and Canadians on behalf of the North Korean people

Our vision for Hanvoice is encompassed in the dual meaning of "han". In the Korean language, "han" means both "one", representing unity, and the "spirit of the Korean people."

Our mission is to mobilize Canadians and Korean Canadians for the North Korean people.

HanVoice thus seeks to unify voices on behalf of the North Korean people and to be a voice representing the very spirit of Koreans – whether they be from the South or the North.

Imagine that within ten years, the entire population of the city of Toronto, is dead. Killed in a famine exasperated by government mismanagement.

Seem farfetched to you? Don't bet on it. This is exactly what has happened within the Democrastic Peoples' Republic of Korea (DPRK), otherwise known as North Korea. Since heavy floods hit North Korea in 1994, it has been estimated that almost three million people have perished from famine within the reclusive state. To put things in perspective, in the three years of the Darfur crisis, it's estimated that 400,000 people have been killed in Sudan. The food shortage has catapulted North Korea into arguable the worst ongoing humanitarian crisis in the world today.

And yet, few know of it.
